Dec. 7 UPDATE: A video of the vehicle and its builders at the auto show is available on the university's YouTube page.
Cal State Fullerton's Titan Formula FSAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) team members are displaying their formula-style race car "Titan V" at the 2012 L.A. Auto Show opening Friday at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The race car will be on display throughout the show, which continues through Dec. 9. College of Engineering and Computer Science students will be on hand to talk about the race car, the FSAE program and promote engineering. They'll be with the race car in Kentia Hall, Booth 633, from 4:30-10:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30.; 1:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1; and 2:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.
"This is primarily a way for the team to get some visibility, as well as exposure for our sponsors," said senior Michael Gustafson, FSAE team captain and a mechanical engineering major. "We also hope to attract new sponsors to the program and we want people to be aware of the engineering college and the quality of the work we do."
SAE Southern California is sponsoring the auto show booth, Gustafson added.
The Titan 2013 FSAE team will compete in the Formula SAE with its new Titan VI June 19-22 at Lincoln Airpark in Lincoln, Neb. The team is currently in the design and early fabrication stages.
The collegiate student design competition is organized by SAE International (formerly Society of Automotive Engineers) and attracts more than 80 teams from universities worldwide. The CSUF team has members from the college's Society of Automotive Engineers and American Society of Mechanical Engineers student chapters.
