Johnson's Dance Featured Saturday

The choreography of Robin E. Johnson, emeritus professor of theatre and dance, will be staged Saturday, Sept. 22, at the 2012 So-Cal Dance Invitational.

His dance “Salon du Soiree” will be performed by the Fuse Modern Dance Co. during the 8 p.m. concert in the Robert B. Moore Theatre on the campus of Orange Coast College.

“Dance in Orange County is growing,” says Johnson. “Please join us for an exciting evening of local companies and choreographers.”

The dancers are: Joshua Romero, Cherise McConner, Phillip Lu, Tracy Bernardo, Erica Santucci, Sarah Housepian and Brian Domino.

The Robert B. Moore Theatre is located at 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa. Tickets are $10 and $15 and available at the box office 714-432-5880 or

Earlier this month, Johnson's dance “To Chevy With Chopin” was performed at the Miles Memorial Playhouse in Santa Monica as part of the sixth annual MixMatch Dance Festival.

In recent years, his choreography has been presented at Barclay Theatre in Irvine, Brea’s Curtis Theatre, Fullerton’s Muckenthaler Cultural Center, Rose Center Theatre in Westminster, the LA Dance Invitational and Dance Under the Stars Choreography Festival in Palm Desert, as welll as at the University of Utah and Cal State Fullerton.

Johnson was a member of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Co., Dance Repertory Theatre and Gloria Newman Dance Theatre.

He was a Fulbright Senior Scholar in 2000 and taught in Lisbon, Portugal. Early in his career, Johnson taught and performed around the globe, including in Canada, France, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan and Yugoslavia. He is past president of the California Dance Educators Association.

Johnson earned his B.A. in dance at UC Santa Barbara and M.F.A. in dance at the University of Utah. He joined the CSUF faculty in 1980.
