Celebrating Latino Heritage

Students Sponsor Oct. 10-11 Events

What:

Cal State Fullerton’s student organization Mesa Cooperativa presents “El Mariachi Showcase” Oct. 10 and “Chicano/Latino Pep Rally” Oct. 11, in celebration of Latino Heritage Month. The events are free and open to the public.

When/Who:

Oct. 10
11 a.m.-2 p.m. — “El Mariachi Showcase.” Victor Oropeza will deliver a lecture on the history of mariachi music, and Mariachi Continental will perform.

Oct. 11
11 a.m.-2 p.m. — “Chicano/Latino Pep Rally.” Syndicated television’s “LatiNation” host Gabriela Fresquez, comedian Ernie G. and poet David Romero will entertain and deliver a message about being proud to be Latino.


Why:

“We believe it's important to know the history of mariachi, a type of music that appears in our culture often, and the pep rally is meant to entertain and empower Latinos and Chicanos,” said communications major Norman Zeledon, vice president of Mesa Cooperativa. “We want people to feel proud to be Latino.”
