Retirement Boot Camp Sept. 8

Campus and community members considering what their retirement future will be like are invited to take part in a free public Retirement Boot Camp Saturday, Sept. 8, at Cal State Fullerton’s Ruby Gerontology Center. The program is sponsored by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute on campus.

The 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. program, “Navigating the New Wonder Years,” will feature discussions about staying healthy, pursuing fulfilling opportunities, sustainable financial planning, preparing for and overcoming obstacles and finding meaning and relevancy in the retirement years.

Keynote speaker is Helen Dennis, co-author of “Project Renewment: The First Retirement Model for Career Women,” a columnist and nationally recognized expert on issues of aging, employment and retirement.

Other speakers include:

Jane Glenn Haas, author of “Time of Your Life: Why Almost Everything Gets Better After Fifty,” an Orange County Register columnist and founder of WomanSage, a nonprofit organization dedicated to employing women at midlife.

Nicole Garcia, a family physician in Orange County

Daniel Blunt, financial planner and OLLI instructor

Barbara Cherry, Cal State Fullerton alumna and associate professor of psychology

The workshop is part of OLLI’s Transitions in Retirement Essentials, a series of free Saturday workshops open to the public. A light lunch will be served and parking is free.
