Accounting Department Recognized
Sept. 30, 2013
Cal State Fullerton's Accounting Department has been recognized by the Institute of Internal Auditors as part of the organization's Internal Auditing Education Partnership, Internal Auditing Foundation Program.
The recognition means that the department has completed an application process, developed relations with the organization's Orange County chapter and its curriculum has met the organization's requirements of "program quality, continuity and sustainability." Each participating department has a business plan, including student internships or equivalent experience as part of its curriculum, internal audit representation on its advisory board and an internal audit student organization.
"What we have been able to accomplish is exemplary," said Fatima Alali, professor of accounting. "Our department joins one other in Southern California and two others on the West Coast in having this distinction." Through such partnerships, the department promotes internal auditing careers, working with the local chapter to strengthen and support not only the curriculum but the activities of the student chapter, Alali added. In addition, a recent $4,500 institute award is supporting student scholarships.
