Lorenzo Bizzi, assistant professor of management, has won the Mercure Award for best doctoral thesis. The award is presented, along with a cash prize of $3,000, to the top thesis written by graduates from HEC Montreal. Bizzi's thesis, "Social Networks and Job Design: Merging Relational and Proactive Perspectives," deals with the relationship among job design, social networks, proactive behavior and performance in organizations.
In June, Brent M. Foster, associate professor of communications, and May communications graduate Althea Wagoner won third place for their short documentary, "1 in 88," at the Los Angeles Press Club's 55th annual SoCal Journalism Awards.
Dallas M. Stout, lecturer in child and adolescent studies and 1994 alumnus (B.S. human services), was appointed president of the Cal State Fullerton Nonprofit Professional Alumni Chapter.
W. Garrett Capune, professor emeritus of criminal justice and sociology, recently completed the 2013 Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim, finishing in one hour and 17 seconds and in third place for the male 70-74 age group. The founding chair of the Criminal Justice Department was awarded emeritus status in 2005 after 36 years of campus service.
