In honor of the late Mark Garrabrant, a long-time music lecturer who died in 2010, his friend and colleague Bill Cunliffe has scored “Hearts Reaching Upward.” The symphony, played by the University Wind Symphony and conducted by Mitchell J. Fennell, professor of music, will be recorded Oct. 28 by the Music Department.

“I hope my symphony honors Mark suitably in the eyes and ears of his audience,” Grammy Awardee and music professor Cunliffe said, adding that the first movement “starts in a serious fashion” that leads into a drum line, jazzy themes and a lyrical second movement.
