Eclectic Mix of Free, Public Lectures Offered

Cal State Fullerton's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) offers two eclectic lecture series featuring topics that range from the history of tea to the history of writing, and from exotic medicine to marketing to the over-50 consumer. Both series are free and open to the public.

  • Sept. 17 —  "Tea Time: A History" presented by April A. Bullock, CSUF professor of liberal studies
  • Oct. 1 — "Writing for Television: Creating Heroes and Villains" with screenwriter and playwright Michael Berlin
  • Oct. 15 — "Current Management of Retinal Disease Including Macular Degeneration, Diabetes and More" by ophthalmologists Scott Grant, Sean Adrean and Ashkan Pirouz of Retina Consultants of Orange County
  • Oct. 29 — "Political Update 2013" with Raphael J. Sonenshein, executive director of the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs at CSU Los Angeles and former chair of the CSUF Division of Politics, Administration and Justice
  • Nov. 12 — "History of Writing: Books and Literacy in the East and the West" with Hank Smith

  • Sept. 12 — "Women's Sexual and Romantic Preferences From a Cross-Culture and Life History Perspective" by Elizabeth G. Pillsworth, CSUF assistant professor of anthropology
  • Sept. 26 — "Exotic Medicine and Chemical Expertise in the 17th-Century Holy Roman Empire" with Margaret D. Garber, CSUF associate professor of liberal studies
  • Oct. 10 — "The World of the Higgs (Boson)" by Dennis Silverman, UCI professor emeritus of physics and astronomy
  • Oct. 24 — "On Floods and Photo Ops" with Paul M. Lester, CSUF professor of communications
  • Nov. 7 — "An Economic Analysis and Forecast" by Mira Farka, CSUF associate professor of economics and co-director of CSUF's Center for Economic Analysis and Forecasting
  • Nov. 21 — "Marketing to the Over 50" with Susan Cadwallader, CSUF associate professor of marketing
