Almost every Macy’s department store is slightly differently than the next.
“What we would put into a store in Newport Beach, California, would be very different from the merchandise we put into a store in Boston, Massachusetts,” said Julie Greiner, Macy’s Inc. Chief Merchandise Planning Officer.
Greiner earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in management from Cal State Fullerton in 1975 and has been on Macy’s senior management team since 2009.
She is in charge of centralized merchandise planning and assortment allocations for all 800 Macy's stores, as well as for the company's district and region merchandise planning structure and function.
Greiner and her team look at lifestyles, climate and ways in which customers differ throughout the United States.
“I really own the planning of merchandise as opposed to the selecting of merchandise,” she said.
But Greiner didn’t start off at the top.
