CSUF Business Student Gustavo Lezama Applies College Smarts to Family Restaurant
Nov. 29, 2013
It has been a busy morning, and Gustavo Lezama's day has only begun. Today is “Taco Tuesday,” the busiest day of the week.
The Cal State Fullerton business student is unloading a supply of fresh tortillas and other goods from the back of a white pickup truck and carrying them inside Taqueros, a fast-food Mexican restaurant in Mission Viejo that he owns with his father, Ramon Lezama.
Gustavo, 26, took over management of the restaurant from his father last year. The handoff was difficult and, as it is with many family-owned businesses, it was a process. “It was hard for him to let go,” Gustavo said.
Now it's Gustavo who puts in 60- to 70 hour weeks at the restaurant, while also working on his degree.
