Fred Katz, Who Married Cello to Jazz, Dies at 94
Fred Katz, a musician, composer and educator at Cal State Fullerton who helped introduce the cello to jazz, died Sept. 7 in Santa Monica. He was 94. Katz joined the Cal State Fullerton faculty in 1968 and served 14 years before being awarded emeritus status. The New York Times reported on his passing and his career.
