The Humanities Misconception

Associate Professor of English Stephan J. Mexal tackles the question 'Is majoring in the humanities -- studying history, English, philosophy and the like -- a good investment?' Pundits tell us we are living in the “iEconomy,” in which growth will come from the globalization of new digital technologies. They suggest that the STEM majors (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) that most obviously support this new economy are the ones that will lead to good-paying jobs.
