Nine of Cal State Fullerton’s 16 men’s basketball players transferred from either four-year or community colleges.
There is a substantial amount of transferring in colleges generally and in sports particularly.
The average number of transfers on the other Big West Conference teams this season is six. The Cal State University teams have the most transfers; Long Beach State has nine while Cal State Northridge has eight.
In fall 2012, about 44 percent of all newly enrolled Cal State students were transfers.
A third of all college students, across all types of institutions, transfer at least once before earning a degree, according to a recent study by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center.
Most current data from the NCAA shows that approximately 40 percent of all men’s basketball players who enter Division I directly out of high school leave their initial schools by the end of their sophomore years. And 44 percent of those transfer to other Division I schools.
CSUF head coach Dedrique Taylor is in his first year at the helm of the program, and many of the transfers on his roster were recruited by the previous coaching staff.
