Feb. 22, 2013

"Women Veterans in Higher Education: Valor, Integrity and Service" is a free March 19 community conference sponsored by Cal State Fullerton's Veterans Student Services in collaboration with Citrus College and National University.

Keynote speaker will be Lori Katz, director of the Long Beach Veteran's Administration Mental Health Center. Also speaking will be Agatha Akers, an army veteran and editor-in-chief of the University of La Verne Law Review.

Tuesday, March 19, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cal State Fullerton, Titan Student Union, Portola Pavilion
800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton, 92831

The conference will include continental breakfast and lunch, a panel discussion featuring women veterans, screening of the film "The Invisible War" and a resource fair.

"The purpose of the event is to acknowledge the service of women veterans, recognize they are a vital community in higher education, and educate college campuses and community service providers about the female veteran experience and how we can best serve them as they return home," said Catherine Ward, coordinator of veterans services.

The theme, "Valor, Integrity and Service," emerged from a Cal State Fullerton women veterans' discussion regarding their service, their experience re-entering the civilian world and their desire to continue to be of service to their communities, Ward noted.
