CSUF Faculty, Staff Awarded $22.8 million in External Funding for 2012

March 22, 2013

Cal State Fullerton faculty and staff members who either received or submitted extramural grants for research and creative activities during 2012 were honored at a special reception March 21 during Research Week.
Last year, 170 individuals submitted and/or received grant awards, resulting in $22.8 million in funding, said President Mildred García at the first “Principal Investigators Reception” at the Golleher Alumni House.
García congratulated faculty and staff for pursuing external funding for scholarly and creative activities that benefit students and Cal State Fullerton. Of the grants received, 16 directly promote student development and help to close the achievement gap, she noted.
García stressed the importance of submitting grant proposals to foster faculty-student research efforts: “Please continue doing the great work you are doing; your hard work enriches our campus. You are role models to our students, you are creating new scholars in your fields, and they contribute to the knowledge of your disciplines. … Thank you for all you do. We are all very proud of you.”
Dorota Huizinga, associate vice president for graduate programs and research, also commended faculty and staff researchers for going the “extra mile to bring external funding for the benefit of our students, our city and our community at-large. In this difficult budget time, more and more, we rely on external funds.”
The president also encouraged those whose proposals were not funded to continue pursuing funding for their research endeavors. “Remember it takes time, it takes lots of work, and we appreciate your efforts, so keep trying to submit those proposals,” García said.
The College of the Arts, Office of the President and CSUF Auxiliary Services Corp. sponsored the reception. Research Week 2013 is sponsored by the Office of the Associate Vice President for Graduate Programs and Research with support from the academic colleges and administrative divisions.
