July 16, 2013
John Koegel, professor of music, has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship to conduct research during the 2013-14 academic year. As a fellow, he will be working on his forthcoming book, “Musical Theater in Mexican Los Angeles, 1910-1940.” It is a companion to his 2009 book, “Music in German Immigrant Theater: New York City, 1840-1940.”
“I will be investigating the immigrant-oriented musical theater and plays in the Mexican community, in downtown Los Angeles and throughout Southern California, from the time of the Mexican Revolution of 1910, with its increased immigration to California, up to World War II,” Koegel said.
