Two Campus Veterans Receive Emeriti Honors

Steven N. Murray was awarded the title of interim provost and vice president for academic affairs and professor of biological science, emeritus, by President Mildred García, in recognition of nearly 42 years of service on campus. During his tenure at CSUF, Murray was the recipient of the 2002-03 Outstanding Professor Award and the 2007 Southern California Academy of Science Wheeler J. North Award for Scientific Excellence. He served as department chair, dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, acting director of athletics, acting associate dean of the former School of Mathematics, Science and Engineering, and most recently interim provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Mel Franks received the title of sports information director and senior associate athletics director, emeritus, in honor of 32 years of service to Cal State Fullerton. Franks served as tournament director for several NCAA baseball regionals and super regionals, as well as softball regional tournaments. He represented the Athletics Department on the Student Affairs Technology Committee and delivered guest lectures to students studying communications and athletics administration. Many journalists in Southern California considered him the leading sports information director in the region, García noted.
