Pollak Library to Feature Espresso and Latte
Campus Dining Opens Second Starbucks Cafe in Former Library Exhibition Space
June 14, 2013
Coffee and tea drinkers seeking refreshment and a place to grab a quick muffin or cookie in the central area of campus will soon find café lattes, espressos, Frappuccinos and more at the newest franchise to be opened on campus by Campus Dining.
A new Starbucks is being built at the Pollak Library.
"Campus members like being able to get coffee and a quick bite to eat at a location that is convenient for their busy lives," said Tony Lynch, director of campus dining services. "The Quad, however, is quite a distance between the food court in the Titan Student Union and the drink and food facilities located in and near Langsdorf and Mihaylo halls. Having a Starbucks in the middle of campus meets a need in that area."
The decision to build in the Pollak Library followed a feasibility study that looked at several aspects, including the cost of building a franchise at the location. Included in the cost was not only construction, but also furniture, fixtures and equipment, as well as design elements so the facility looked and felt like a Starbucks, Lynch explained.
Like the Starbucks in Mihaylo Hall, the Pollak Library location will be a franchise offering the same full service as found in Mihaylo and at off-campus stores. The facility will operate on a similar schedule as the library during fall and spring semesters with shortened hours during intersession and summer when foot traffic is less.
The finished site will feature seating for approximately 50-60 customers with seating in the store, in a seating area adjacent to the store in the library and outside by the east side library entrance.
The new store is expected to open shortly after the fall semester begins.
