Cal State Fullerton has been awarded a $1.25 million, five-year U.S. Department of Education grant to provide training and support to early childhood special education teacher candidates. Funding for the effort was secured under the direction of Janice Myck-Wayne, associate professor of special education. Supporting Teacher Advancement and Retention, or Project STAR, will train 32 early childhood special education candidates to complete the preliminary and clear education specialist credential programs to teach children with special needs.

"A primary focus is to train early childhood special education teachers in successful inclusion practices," Myck-Wayne said. This grant continues work begun through a nearly $746,000 grant awarded in 2009.
