Cal State Fullerton President Mildred García is a newly elected member of the 2015-16 Board of Directors of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, chaired by Congresswoman Linda Sanchez.

The new officers include business leaders, members of Congress and representatives from such organizations as the American Association of Retired Persons, National Education Association and United Food & Commercial Workers International Union.

García is the only university president elected to the 26-member board. Serving with her in 2015-16 will be leaders from: Coca-Cola, Comcast, Dell, New York Life, PepsiCo, Southwest Airlines, Toyota and Univision, among others.

"CHCI has a long history of impacting the Latino community and preparing America's future leaders," noted Sanchez, also newly elected to her post.

Cal State Fullerton students have completed internships at the institute, which seeks to develop the next generation of Latino leaders. Most recently, Jacquelyn I. Gonzalez '13, who earned her bachelor's degree in child and adolescent development, interned there last spring, then completed a fellowship at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Ronald Berdugo '10, who interned for the institute in 2009 when he was majoring in political science, is now co-chair of the California Latino Capitol Association Foundation Board of Directors and works as a legislative aide to state Sen. Ed Hernandez.
