'The Copernican Question' Author on Campus
Nov. 14, 2014
Robert Westman, author of "The Copernican Question: Prognostication, Skepticism and Celestial Order," presents "Copernicus and the Astrologers" at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, in the Titan Student Union's TitanTheater. Westman, a UC San Diego history and science studies faculty member, will expand upon the thesis he presented in his book — that Copernicus' hypothesis that the earth is a planet that revolves around the sun, and not the other way around, was based on a controversy about astrology.
The event is sponsored by the History and Liberal Studies departments, the Liberal Studies Student Association and the Center for the History and Philosophy of Science, Technology and Medicine.
