Research Scholars Win Top National Awards
Oct. 29, 2014
Three biological science majors won outstanding poster awards for their presentations at the Oct. 16-18 Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science national conference in Los Angeles.
Award-winning students are: Joshua Silva, a scholar in the Minority Access to Research Careers training program; and Matthew Scanlon and Prarthana Shankar, both Southern California Ecosystems Research Program scholars. A record-number of 1,200 posters were presented.
"Such successes confirm our belief that we can compete with the best across the country," said Darren R. Sandquist, who co-directs SCERP with William J. Hoese, both professors of biological science.
