2014 Trust Summit Honors Most Trustworthy O.C. Brands

Event Set For Aug. 19 in Meng Concert Hall

More than 400 business and nonprofit leaders, marketing strategists, entrepreneurs and educators are expected to attend Cal State Fullerton's 2014 Trust Summit, where Orange County's "Top 10 Most Trustworthy Brands" and "Most Trustworthy Leader " will be announced. The Aug. 19 program, themed "The Shape of Trust to Come," is being presented by the University's Center for Brand Values Communication and Research and The Values Institute at DGWB Advertising & Communications.


Keynote speaker Rich Karlgaard, publisher of Forbes magazine, will discuss "The Soft Edge: Where Great Companies Find Lasting Success."

Selection of the "10 Most Trustworthy Brands" is based on a proprietary methodology developed by The Values Institute and the Center for Brand Values Communication and Research, which measures brand trust in terms of five core values – competency, concern, consistency, connection and candor. According to Mark Guohua Wu, CSUF associate professor of communications and center co-director, the survey's uniqueness lies in its diagnostic ability to help marketers develop brand trust with their stakeholders.


The Center for Brand Values Communication and Research was established in late 2013 through a partnership between the institute and Cal State Fullerton's College of Communications.The center's mission focuses on how organizations communicate shared values that lead to brand trust and strategic organizational decisions. Wu and center co-director Patty C. Malone, associate professor of human communication studies, work with The Values Institute to connect theory, research and instruction through various research and outreach tools.


Since its founding in 2010, The Values Institute has observed the relationship between brands, trust and communication in dozens of organizations and created Orange County's Most Trustworthy Brands event, recognizing more than 30 brands. The institute was founded by Cal State Fullerton alumnus and DGWB President Mike Weisman '76 (B.A. communications).
