University Celebrates Earth Week

Three-Day Program Looks at Wide Range of Issues

Campus and community members can check out the latest in green and alternative vehicle technology Tuesday, April 15, as part of Cal State Fullerton's Earth Week festivities.

What:

California State University, Fullerton celebrates Earth Week April 15-17 with a variety of events and programs ranging from a farmer's market, green vehicle and energy efficiency expos to a daylong sustainability forum.

When:

Tuesday, April 15, through Thursday, April 17

Schedule:

April 15

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Quad and walkway between Pollak Library and the Titan Student Union
Exhibitors will showcase green and alternative vehicle technology, solar and other energy efficiency technologies. A display about how the campus recycles its waste is also planned.

April 16

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Quad and walkway between Pollak Library and the Titan Student Union
Activities include a farmer's market and an expo of sustainability nonprofits, including Heal the Bay and the U.S. Green Building Council; on-campus clubs and centers will share their efforts; and the Take Back the Tap student campaign will share information and offer tap water taste testing.

April 17

Sustainability Symposium
9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Titan Student Union, Portola Pavilion
Faculty, staff and students will give sustainability-related presentations, display posters and exhibits throughout the day.

Guest speakers are:

  • Jerry Meral, Natural Heritage Institute director of California water programs and former deputy secretary of California's Natural Resources Agency. Meral will speak at 6:10 p.m.
  • Beth Karlin, director of UCI's Transformational Media Lab. Karlin will speak at 6:40 p.m.
  • Kyle Thiermann, professional surfer and creator of the Surfing for Change movie series. Thiermann will speak at 7:10 p.m.

Speakers will take part in a 7:55 p.m. panel discussion following announcement of student winners of a sustainability contest.

Fullerton Arboretum Green Scene plant and garden show
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. event features more than 80 specialty garden vendors offering plants, handcrafted garden art and pottery; discovery sessions on plants, landscape architecture, nature photography, as well as an exhibit of watercolors.

April 17

"Find Your Balance" Health Fair hosted by the Student Health and Counseling Center and Titan Recreation.
The 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. program on the lawn south of the Student Health and Counseling Center, will offer free health screenings and massages, drop-in fitness classes, live music and free food.

Parking:
