First-Quarter Grants and Contracts Roundup

Cal State Fullerton faculty and staff were recipients of numerous grants during the first-quarter of 2014, including

David Chenot, Social Work: $1,297,909 from the Regents of the University of California for "California Social Work Education Center (CalSWEC) Master of Social Work" project.

Mindy B. Mechanic, Psychology: $368,421 from the Department of Justice for "Ethnocultural Influences on Women's Experiences of Responses to Intimate Partner Abuse."

Christine Latham and Sadeeka Al-Majid, Nursing: $200,000 from Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center for "Research Nurse Scientist Partnership."

Joshua Smith, Physics: $145,000 in third-year funding from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee/National Science Foundation for "Data Handling Analysis LIGO." Related story: Physicist Wins NSF Award 

Guardian Scholars Program: $100,000 in two-year funding from the Angell Foundation to support scholarships, summer gap funding, student leadership programs, student development retreat and hiring of graduate student intern. The program also received a $75,000 from the California College Pathways Multi-Network/Stuart Foundation to develop college pathways for emancipated foster youth. The funding will support partnerships between CSUF and Orange Coast and Golden West colleges. Related story: Bright Futures, Big Dreams

Teresa J. Crawford, Elementary and Bilingual Education: $73,446 from C-REAL and $40,006 from CCCT for "CREATE! Children Reaching Excellence in the Arts and Academics Through Engagement." Related story: Recognizing Partnership in Teacher Education

Ruth Yopp-Edwards, Elementary and Bilingual Education: $61,829.95 from the Fullerton School District for "Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment 2013-14." Related story: Transitional Kindergarten Program

Kiran George, Computer Engineering: $50,000 National Science Foundation grant for "I-Corps: Thought- and Expression-Based Human-Technology Interface." Related story: Students Develop Mind-Controlled Robotic Arm

Kevin Lambert , Liberal Studies: $50,000 fellowship from the Huntington Library to work on a book, "Symbols and Things: English Mathematics and British Physics, 1800-1860," focusing on the history of English, mathematics and the beginnings of physics.

Corrine DeCapite, Fullerton International Resources for Schools and Teachers, and Sheryl Fontaine, College of Humanities and Social Sciences: $45,574 from the University of California, Office of the President" for FIRST-NCLB 10."

Michael LaCour-Little , Finance: $27,417 from the California Association of Realtors for "C.A.R. FHA Assumability Study (Phase 1)."

Christina A. Goode, Chemistry and Biochemistry: $25,000 from the California State University Chancellor's Office and $15,000 from the Cal State Sacramento University Enterprises/National Science Foundation for Year 6 of CSU LSAMP (Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation).

David Pagni, Mathematics: Walmart Foundation grant of $25,000 for the Project MISS program to offset instructor salaries, textbooks and materials, parking passes and meals. 

David Pagni and Margaret L. Kidd, Mathematics: $22,500 from the University of California, Office of the President, for the "NCLB Orange County Mathematics Projects at Fullerton."

Laura Gil-Trejo, Social Science Research Center: $14,364 contract from the California Institute of Mental Health to fund "CiHM Telephone Survey."

Dawn Person, Educational Leadership: $12,000 from LA Community Colleges for "Achieving Dream Program Evaluation."
