President Mildred García Completes Term as AAC&U Board Chair
Feb. 11, 2014
President Mildred García recently finished her one-year appointment as chair of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Board of Directors. She is now the board's past chair — a position she will hold until the next annual meeting in January 2015.
AAC&U is the leading national association concerned with the quality, vitality and public standing of undergraduate liberal education. Founded in 1915, AAC&U now comprises more than 1,300 member institutions — including accredited public and private colleges, community colleges, research universities, and comprehensive universities of every type and size.
AAC&U recently released their five-year strategic plan titled "Big Questions, Urgent Challenges: Liberal Education and Americans' Global Future." This year, the board approved a new mission statement affirming focus on "making liberal education and inclusive excellence the foundation for institutional purpose and educational practice in higher education." In late-January, President García presided over the annual meeting focusing on "Quality, E-Quality and Opportunity: How Educational Innovations Will Make — or Break — America's Global Future."
