Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Offers Free Lectures

Cal State Fullerton's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), in conjunction with the Golden Hearts Group at St. Jude Medical Center, offers a series of free, public lectures on various medical issues.

Jan. 22 – "Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Surgery" with Theodoros Daskalakis, laparoscopic surgeon, St. Jude Medical Center
Feb. 5 – "Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery" by Ledford Powell, thoracic surgeon, Hoag, St. Joseph and Saddleback Medical Centers
Feb. 19 – "Foot and Ankle Problems in the Senior Population" with Marie Keplinger, podiatric specialist, St. Jude Medical Center
March 5 – "Organizational Developments in the Comprehensive Delivery of Modern Health Care" presented by Khaliq Siddiq, medical director, St. Jude Heritage Medical Group
March 19 – "Upper Extremity Disorders in Mature Adults" with Michael Rubinstein, orthopedic surgeon, St. Jude Medical Center

Feb. 26 – "Update on the Affordable Health Care Act and Its Effect on the Future of Health Care for the Senior Population" presented by Brian Helleland, executive vice president of operations and COO, St. Jude Medical Center
March 12 – "Dental Care in the Senior Population" with dentist Gordon E. Haag Jr., Fullerton
March 26 – "Irritable Bladder Syndrome" by Ali Alavi, urologist, St. Jude Medical Center
April 16 – "Upper Respiratory Health" with Hana Bui, ear, nose and throat specialist, St. Jude Medical Center

Feb. 6 – "The Healthy Lifestyle for the Senior Population" by James Hardeman, pulmonologist and intensivist, St. Jude Medical Center
March 6 – "The Integration of Transcendental Meditation Into Evidence-Based Practice of Medicine" presented by John Zamarra, Fullerton cardiologist and preventative health specialist
April 3 – "Healthy Heart Supplements – The Good and Bad and the Ugly" by John Zamarra, Fullerton cardiologist and preventative health specialist

This year marks the 35th anniversary for OLLI, a self-supporting university affiliate group of more than 1,300 retired and semiretired individuals dedicated the pursuit of lifelong learning.
