Thinking Inside the Box About Homelessness

About 150 Cal State Fullerton students slept in cardboard boxes on the university’s campus on April 24.
A group of CSUF social work graduate students, along with associate professor of social work Caroline Bailey and Family Promise of Orange County Inc., organized Box City, an overnight event that aimed to raise awareness of homelessness in the county.
“(Box City) was a project that we could work on together,” said Russell Daniel, one of the student leaders of Box City and a CSUF social work graduate student. “There are 110 of us (social work grad students) and with 110 people, you could get a bit done.”
With more than 200 people in attendance, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez spoke at the event.
Attendees participated in a box-decorating contest and educational games like a life-size version of the board game The Game of Life that was altered to include life events a homeless person might endure. Read the full article online .
