Students Protest 'Success Fees' At CSU Meeting

About 60 students gathered Wednesday outside the Cal State University headquarters in Long Beach chanting their discontent with what are called student success fees at many CSU campuses.
“This fee will ensure student failure,” said Sean Washburn, 26, a Cal State Fullerton history graduate student.
Cal State Fullerton this month became the latest of the CSU campuses to implement success fees after CSU Chancellor Timothy White approved the measure Friday. San Diego State this month also approved a similar fee.
In total, 11 schools in the 23-campus system, including Cal State Long Beach, have a student success fee, by which funds are earmarked for a wide range of projects aimed at improving the student experience on campus.
