Cal State Fullerton's School of Nursing has formed a partnership with Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center to work with the hospital's registered nurses on evidence-based practice research.

The five-year partnership includes $200,000, awarded by the hospital, to help pay for oversight by and release time for faculty members involved in the project. The funds will be paid out over the life of the agreement.

The partnership will give opportunities to nursing faculty and students to work with registered nurses who are conducting evidence-based research focused on enhancing the quality and safety of patient care to optimize outcomes, said Christine Latham, professor of nursing.

Some of the activities would include help writing proposals, as well as conducting quality improvement projects and other patient care-focused research, such as pain management, Latham said.

"The goal is to assist them (Orange Coast) with increasing their use and understanding of evidence-based practices with their registered nurses," she explained.

"A number of faculty have been working over the past five years to get a center established in the School of Nursing, so we are very excited with this opportunity to connect to our community," she said.
