Osher Lifelong Learning Offers Jazz and Other Performances

This fall, Cal State Fullerton's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) offers a series of free, public music performances from Sept. 6 through Dec. 13.
Jazz Series at Steamers, a collaboration between OLLI and the popular Fullerton jazz venue, features live music performances and a discussion about the history of the genre and a particular theme. Music is provided by Joe Lawton, Mike LeVan and the Docs. Children are welcome.
The 12:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday programs are held at Steamers Jazz Club & Café, 138 E. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton. The schedule:
Sept. 6 – "Ella Fitzgerald (20th Century) and Diana Krall (21st Century)"
Oct. 4 – "Astronomy 101: The Sun, Moon and Stars"
Nov. 1 – "Philosophy 101: The Mind, Body and Soul"
Dec. 13 – "Christmas and All That Jazz"
At Cal State Fullerton, the Musical Performances series showcases the talents of musicians, vocalists and dancers within OLLI and members of the University's School of Music.
Performances are held 2:15-3:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 16 and 30, Oct. 14 and 28, and Dec. 2 in the Ruby Gerontology Center's Mackey Auditorium, 800 N. State College Blvd., Fullerton, 92831.
On-campus parking is $8 for a daily permit Monday through Friday. Parking is free after 5 p.m. Friday and on weekends. Details are available online.
OLLI, a self-supporting University affiliate group of more than 1,500 retired and semiretired individuals dedicated the pursuit of lifelong learning, celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2014.
