Hewitt Appointed as Interim University Librarian

A. Scott Hewitt, vice chair and professor of chemistry and biochemistry, has been appointed to serve as interim university librarian, effective Aug. 4.
Susan Tschabrun has been in the interim post since August 2013, following the retirement of Richard Pollard , who spent more than a quarter-century as university librarian. Hewitt is expected to remain in the post until the national search for a successor is completed.
"Dr. Hewitt is a respected, experienced and collegial leader," José L. Cruz, provost and vice president for academic affairs, noted in a statement to the campus community. "He will serve the University well as we work to sharpen the vision of the Pollak Library; strengthen its relationships with students, faculty, staff, and our local community; and implement the change needed to make it the intellectual hub of our University."
Since joining the faculty in 1991, Hewitt has served on more than 95 committees at the college and University level, including the University Library Committee and Library of the Future Steering Committee . In addition, he has been an active member of the Academic Senate for 11 years and chaired the faculty body from 2008-10. He received the Faculty Leadership in Collegial Governance Award in 2011.
