$600,000 Grant to Prepare Math Students for Grad School

To prepare underrepresented students for success in earning advanced math degrees, Cal State Fullerton been awarded a $600,146 National Science Foundation grant.
Math faculty members Angel Pineda and Scott Annin will direct the four-year "Graduate Readiness and Access in Mathematics Program," designed for undergrads who aspire graduate study in the mathematical sciences. Six students will be selected each year, participate in the program for two years and receive a $5,000 stipend per academic year.
Students will receive mentoring, special course work, research experiences, preparation for the graduate school exam and participate in conferences. Funding also supports faculty mentors, an assessment to measure the program's impact on student achievement and a cultural and family component to help students overcome traditional barriers to success.
