Learning From a Legend

Dance Students

Earlier this month, 21 Cal State Fullerton dance majors, two alumni and two faculty members traveled to Northern California for a private workshop with Anna Halprin, founder of the San Francisco Dancer’s Workshop and the Tamalpa Institute.

“At 95 years old, Anna Halprin’s diverse career has spanned the field of dance since the late 1930s, creating revolutionary directions for the art form and inspiring fellow choreographers to take modern dance to new dimensions,” said Lisa D. Long, assistant professor of theatre and dance, who traveled with the students to Halprin’s Mountain Home Studio in Kentfield. “This immersive outdoor experience fueled our dancers' creativity, challenged their skills and allowed them to dance at the feet of a dance pioneer.”

The trip was partially underwritten by Associated Students Inc. and the Dance Association.
