This year at Cal State Fullerton has shown me who I need to be, clearer than at any other time in my life. When I transferred to CSUF in fall 2014, I was a tall, black kid with no sense of direction, guidance or understanding of how the university system worked.

In my mind, you get good grades, you get the degree, then you get the job; life was a simple equation. My involvement with the various organizations I am currently a part of is giving me the insight necessary for future educators dealing with youth. There is the Child and Adolescent Studies Association, which gives me opportunities to build relationships with struggling families from minority backgrounds — families that mirrored mine growing up and families that literally live the next town over from us.
