San Bernardino Victims Honored at Cal State Fullerton Vigil

Mourners gathered at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday for a candlelight vigil in remembrance of the victims of the Dec. 2 San Bernardino mass shooting, including alumna Tin Thanh Nguyen.

Following a minute of silence, 14 candles symbolizing the individuals who were killed were lit and each name was read aloud.

CSUF sociology and human communications studies student Thuan Nguyen, who lives in San Bernardino County, organized the vigil.

“This is now something that has reached our backyard,” said Nguyen, 27. “I just wanted to give back somehow. (The vigil) is something that could show from one community to another that we see, we understand and we care about the situation and want to provide support.”

“I think as a group when we come together it gives us a platform -- it gives an outlet for students to hear one another, to be with one another and to hopefully reduce some of those misconceptions or misunderstandings about others,” he said.
