Bio: Dunek ’73 (B.A. political science) was the city manager for Los Alamitos for seven years before coming to Lake Forest in 1996. He served as a Buena Park police officer and was executive director of the Orange County division for the League of California Cities. He lives with his wife, Ruby, in San Juan Capistrano.

Why he is an influencer: This year, Dunek helped usher in a new restaurant and retail complex on El Toro Road near the I-5 freeway. He also continues to oversee planning of Lake Forest’s permanent city hall and community center, scheduled to open in three years. During Dunek’s time at Lake Forest the city has doubled in size. He also has mentored assistants who are now city managers in other Orange County cities, and shepherded the creation of one of the biggest sports parks in the county without adding taxes.
