Fossil of World's Oldest Sea Turtle
Sept. 14, 2015
Scientists from the Senckenberg Research Institute’s Alexander von Humboldt Foundation have revealed the fossil of the oldest sea turtle known to date. The fossilized reptile is at least 120 million years old — 25 million years older than the one previously discovered. Its skeleton, almost intact since its existence during the Cretaceous period, is more than six feet in size and reveals almost all typical characteristics of present-day marine turtles.
