Trends That Could Spook the Economy

Cal State Fullerton professor of economics Adrian Fleissig says current real estate trends could be a ghost of the Great Recession and frightening enough to spook the economy. But if you’re a landlord, the news might not be that bad.

“Not only have apartment rents been increasing, but they continue to rise at a scary rate,” Fleissig said.

“Households may be shocked to see what is happening in 2015 — and what about even higher rents for 2016? While there is evidence of growth in wages, the increased earnings are typically not enough to cover the higher rents,” he said. Continue reading.
