Marketing Expert Weighs in on Thanksgiving Shopping, Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Pre-Black Friday sales are getting started — on Thanksgiving of course.

“It’s almost as if they are offering it as a new Thanksgiving experience,” said Howard Forman, Cal State Fullerton associate professor of marketing. “The football games are done, the dinner is done, you ate a lot — why not walk it off at the stores and beat the rush?”

Wal-Mart, Target, Macy’s, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Kmart, JCPenney and Michaels are some of the larger retail stores that will kick off Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving Day.

“There’s a trend — how early can you open on Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving Day is no longer taboo,” Forman said.
