Educational Program Promotes Healthy Lifestyles

A new program — a partnership between Cal State Fullerton’s Department of Kinesiology and School of Nursing — will offer families an educational experience working together for a healthier lifestyle, while providing practical, hands-on training for university students considering community health promotion careers.

“Healthy Lifestyles,” for families with children 7 to 12 years of age, will offer interactive workshops and hands-on activities related to health and nutrition, physical fitness, stress management and emergency preparedness for the home, during an 11-week period beginning Saturday, Sept. 12.

Students will lead the workshops and with faculty members conduct research on aspects related to healthy lifestyles during the program.

“The goal is to help families learn together about lifestyle choices, like physical activity and nutrition,” said Kathleen S. Wilson, assistant professor of kinesiology, “and by offering such a program, our kinesiology and nursing students get practical and research experience.”

Cost for the program is $75 per family and may be waived on a case-by-case basis. More information is available by calling 657-278-8329 or email.
