Angler brings his custom rods to Tustin

Bass got a reprieve this weekend, as dedicated anglers temporarily abandoned lakes throughout the Southwest.

Before Saturday, many of them knew each other only through a growing online community, with their style of big mouth bass fishing often a solo sport.

The location for their first meeting? Unit Q of an industrial business park in the heart of Tustin. Their purpose? To support Ben Dehnadi and the grand opening of his showroom for Low Down Custom Rods.

Dehnadi, 37, has come a long way since he started crafting custom rods on his kitchen counter to stay busy after being laid off from his job in finance. Dehnadi graduated in 2004 from Cal State Fullerton with a degree in business.

“His rods, they’re made by somebody who actually fishes and has a really great knowledge of these techniques,” said Manny Chee, a fishing guide who traveled from Tempe, Ariz. for Saturday’s opening. “There’s not really any other rod company that focuses solely on making that type of rod.” Continue reading.
