Success Tip: Hit Hard, Graduate Early

Student-athletes have a five-year window to complete four years of athletic eligibility, with many graduating in four to five years. Samantha Galarza, a captain on Cal State Fullerton’s softball team, completed her run in just three.
Galarza, 20, finished early after spending the past three years helping the Titans claim back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time since 2006-07.
“It wasn’t something that I came into college knowing that I was going to do,” Galarza said. “I just kind of wanted to pursue a different path. It’s definitely risky, it’s different, it’s very atypical, but I’m very excited about it. I feel at peace with the decision.”
The broadcast journalism major is a true student-athlete. She’s earned nearly every academic award she could. She was named the 2013 Big West Scholar Athlete of the Year and was also selected as a member of the 2014 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
