Minding the Gap

President Mildred Garcia is determined to close the achievement gap

CSUF President Mildred García, who is the Cal State University system's first Latina president, made the interior design changes to the president's office when she assumed the role in 2012, succeeding Milton A. Gordon.

García previously served as president of Cal State Dominguez Hills from 2007-2012 and president of Berkeley College in New York and New Jersey from 2001 to 2007.

Most recently, she was honored with a Trailblazer Award from Leadership California, recognizing her work and achievement as a female CSU president.
When García isn't occupied with presidential duties, the native New Yorker enjoys dancing salsa. You may have even seen her dancing skills on stage at last year's annual College of the Arts Concert Under the Stars fundraiser.
"It was fascinating and amazing," she said. "People thought I would be nervous but I just closed my eyes and said, 'Make believe you're in one of those salsa clubs while you were growing up in New York City.' It was just wonderful." Continue reading.
