Money Lessons Assist OC Girls With Decisions

Girls Inc. of Orange County and Cal State Fullerton's Center for Economic Education are working to educate teenage girls about the crucial topics of personal financial management and finding and obtaining the right job.
The CSUF center last month partnered with Girls Inc.'s local chapter to offer a four-day Financial Genius Program, which was part of Girls Inc.'s Training Week Externship Program.
The Financial Genius Program aims to improve the girls' grasp on financial literacy. The girls learned how to invest, including how to buy and sell stocks; and how to recognize the importance of saving.
The Externship Program is designed for workforce readiness. It includes resume-building skills, interviewing skills, workshops on professionalism and college preparedness.
Krystel Miranda, externship coordinator for Girls Inc., said these skills are "not something taught in the formal (school) setting, and it's definitely something people need to know." Continue reading.
