Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Summer Lectures Begin

Note: The location of the Aug. 8  jazz series program, “The Music of Duke Ellington,” has been moved to Florentine’s Grill, 102 N. Harbor Blvd., Fullerton 92832.

What:
Free public lectures on climate change, the world of animation, financial fraud, trauma intervention and emotional first aid, as well as discussions and live performances of jazz, are among the summer offerings from Cal State Fullerton’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

A special July 2 musical program and veterans recognition celebrating Independence Day is also scheduled, along with an August open house to introduce the public to the organization, its lectures, courses and other activities. The open house is set 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 8.

July 7 – “The World of Animation,” by CSUF faculty members Chuck Grieb, professor of art , and Wendy Grieb, assistant professor of art

July 21 – “Ford’s and Me: Working at America’s Most Infamous Theatre,” by Mark Ramont, CSUF associate professor of theatre

Aug. 4 – “Trauma Intervention and Emotional First Aid,” presented by Wayne Fortin, founder and CEO of the Trauma Intervention Programs Inc.

July 16 – “Tales of a Great University, Continuing,” by Sean Walker, professor of biological science and past chair, CSUF Academic Senate, and Amir Dabirian, CSUF vice president for information technology and chief information officer

July 30 – “From Poverty to a Thriving Existence,” presented by Ian Daelucian, founder and president, The Heart of Delight

Jazz Series at Steamers

August 8 – “The Music of Duke Ellington – the Most Prolific and Popular Jazz Innovator of the 20th Century”

Fourth of July Celebration and Veterans Recognition
1-3:30 p.m., Thursday, July 2, Mackey Auditorium

A program of instrumental music and patriotic songs celebrating the July 4 holiday and honoring OLLI veterans is presented by OLLI members. Refreshments will be served in the Shapiro Wing of the Ruby Gerontology Center after the concert.

Parking:
$8 for a daily permit Monday through Friday. Details are available online.
