Senate Resolution Advocates Full Funding for CSU

Cal State Fullerton’s Academic Senate unanimously passed a “Resolution in Support of Fully Funding the California State University System” during its Dec. 8 meeting.

Sean Walker, chair and professor of biological science, introduced the resolution, noting that at one time, the state supported the 23-campus system by underwriting the major portion of the cost to educate students — from the 1960s through early 1990s — but that has since changed. “We don’t have a lot of money now,” he said.

According to the California State University, between the period of 2008-2012, the system lost $1 billion of state revenue.

Robert Mead, associate professor of economics and a former chair of the campus’s Planning, Resource and Budget Committee (PRBC), agreed, saying that not only is the CSU not fully funded, “we’re getting less and less” as a percentage of the total cost.
