Mildred García: Student Volunteers Forge Career Paths in Hospitals

As president of one of the largest universities in the state, it’s impossible to meet all of our nearly 39,000 students, but the times I am in their presence – whether dancing in the student section at Homecoming or hosting dinner for our Guardian Scholars – is the favorite part of my job. In these situations, I look for opportunities to develop a relationship with at least one student and, subsequently, track that individual’s academic progress. This practice keeps me connected to not only these specific students, but also our entire student body and the programs that are most influential in their success.
