CSUF Group Part of Momentous Wave Discovery
Feb. 18, 2016
Cal State Fullerton's contributions to the Feb. 11 announcement confirming fundamental predictions of Albert Einstein's theory of relativity and the existance of gravitational waves were announced in the Feb. 18 Cal State Fullerton section of the Orange County Register.
“This discovery inaugurates a new era of astronomy, where we are able to measure the movements of black holes from across the universe by the gravitational waves they give off,” said Joshua Smith, associate professor of physics, as part of the newspaper's coverage. Smith leads the team made up of faculty colleagues Jocelyn Read and Geoffrey Lovelace, both assistant professors of physics, and Alfonso Agnew, associate professor of mathematics.
