Opera Star Deborah Voigt Shares a Few Notes With CSUF Music Students

International opera diva and Cal State Fullerton alum Deborah Voigt gives back – and comes back – to her alma mater because of everything it gave her: mentorship, a love for opera and the foundation for an international career.

Voigt’s most recent return was for a benefit performance and dedication celebration at Cal State Fullerton’s Meng Concert Hall in the Clayes Performing Arts Center to commemorate the newly designated School of Music on Nov. 8, when she performed with the University Symphony Orchestra and received the inaugural Titans of Music award for music performance.

Proceeds from the concert benefited the scholarship fund for music performance students in the School of Music.

Voigt said one of the most rewarding parts about returning to Cal State Fullerton was seeing how much the music program had grown – most notably, from a Department of Music into a full-fledged School of Music – since she enrolled in 1980. (Voigt did not graduate from Cal State Fullerton; she was accepted into the Merola Opera Program in San Francisco after her third year and chose not to return).
